Carmel Baptist Church 170th Anniversary

The members of Carmel Baptist Church, 19069 CR 481 in Lindale, will celebrate 170 years of ministry on May 7, 2023. The program will begin at 10:30 am and complete with a lunch for all. Program personalities will be former pastor Sherman Mayfield, solo artist Casey Rivers, and Dr. Danny Pickens on Smith Baptist Association. In addition, Julie Lee of the church Korean Ministry will sing. James Cheatham, current pastor since February 2006 will lead the services. Everyone is invited to attend this very special day in the history of Carmel Baptist Church and the Lindale area.
Carmel Baptist Church was organized with six members on May 6, 1853 in a vacant house on Duck Creek in what was then the Flora Community. The town of Flora had a mill, post office, a black smith shop, a tan yard, at least one doctor, and several other stores. Now, the town of Flora has gone, but Carmel Baptist Church still stands as its only survivor of the era. The church is one of the oldest churches in East Texas and remains a strong ministry of the Gospel.
